IAN Street will warn his side not to have revenge as a reason to beat Oldham Boro later today, Saturday.

1874 Northwich have failed to beat their North West Counties League rivals in two previous meetings this season, including a 2-1 defeat on the club’s debut in the FA Vase.

But the visitors have an even more pressing need than getting one over on a foe, according to the manager.

“We want to win because we need the points more badly than they do,” he said.

“I’m not into putting right something that did or didn’t happen last time; our focus should be on trying to get back to the top of the table again.”

To do that, he will ask for sharper shooting than in the cup defeat and a 1-1 draw on the opening day at Barton Stadium.

The signs are good – 1874 Northwich put four goals past their opponents in the Cheshire FA Senior Cup in midweek.

Street said: “I’ll pick an attacking team, because I want to put them to the sword.

“We do need to stick away the chances we make though, as those misses cost us in the FA Vase game. We’re a different animal now to then, mind.”

He is right, though a 4-3 defeat at Rochdale Town last time out in Division One was an opportunity missed to make theirs first place.

With Adam Foy a long-term injury absentee, Lee Jones has taken over as captain.

Dean McGregor (knee), so impressive against Oldham on 1874’s competitive debut, is a doubt to be around to repeat the trick.

So too is Danny Thomas, due to have wisdom teeth removed yesterday, Friday.

Street added: “I’ll see how both of them are on Saturday morning before making a final decision.”
