Connett: 'Why should I say anything?'

VICS chairman Mike Connett yesterday, Tuesday, refused to discuss the club's future.

The Guardian contacted him after fans raised concerns about Northwich Victoria's situation.

"It's my business, why should I say anything?" he said.

He is understood to have contacted Manchester-based financial firm Begbies Traynor for advice on his next move.

The company looked after Vics when they were in administration in 2004. Vics are currently rock bottom of the Blue Square Premier, with just one point from 12 games.

The bad run of form has seen three managers in the hot seat since the start of the season, with current temporary boss Dino Maamria starting where the others left off with a 3-1 defeat against Woking at the Victoria Stadium on Saturday. But he feels he could be the man to steer Vics away from the foot of the table.

He said: "I know this league inside out.

"I think it's vital to know what you are up against. I know the players, the teams and the managers. That has to help us."

Previous incumbent Paul Warhurst told the Guardian last week his reasons why he could not carry on in the job.

"I had a long chat with Mike. The financial circumstances of the club mean we can't bring any new players in to improve the team. "I felt we needed to do that to make progress so it's a very disappointing ending from a personal point of view."
