ONLY five teams, from a total of 20, have an unblemished record after the first fortnight of qualifying for this season’s Mid Cheshire Super League.

Wreckers lead the way in Group One following an 8-2 win at Cobras, followed closely by Tigers and Bears – the latter narrow victors over Winsford.

Sparks whitewashed Lemmings in a contest that was much closer than the result suggests.

Half of the matches went to a fifth set and one man, John Perry, won all three of his singles rubbers that way.

It was the same when he joined forces with Dave Southall in the doubles, that combination ending the resistance of Dave Etchells and Mark Darlington following an 11-7 win in the deciding set.

Hawks occupy top spot in Division Two following a 7-3 success against Werewolves, while Vikings’ 6-4 win against Valiants keeps them close behind.

There were comfortable victories too for Lab Rats and Kinetics against Rangers and Romans respectively.

Meanwhile Charles Davis recorded a notable win against Andy Beswick in their singles head-to-head to earn for Sticklebacks a deserved draw from their visit to Snakes.
