NORTHWICH Victoria will have an opportunity to avenge a knockout defeat last season when they resume their FA Vase campaign.

They were paired with Cammell Laird, who ran out 3-2 victors in a Cheshire FA Senior Cup tie when the teams met in December, in a draw for the first round published by the organisers on Monday afternoon.

Vics progressed, and recorded a maiden win in the competition at the same time, after seeing off Maltby Main on Sunday thanks to second-half goals from Billy Whittle and in-form Brian Matthews.

Cammell Laird, currently 19th in the North West Counties League’s First Division South with one win from nine games, have eliminated Harworth Colliery and Shelley – both by a 2-1 scoreline – to reach this stage.

Steve Wilkes’ side have home advantage when the Birkenhead outfit visit on Saturday, October 13, kick-off 3pm.

A reward for the victor is £825, while losing clubs receive £275 from the competition's prize fund.
