NORTHWICH thirds ensured they would take maximum points from a derby meeting with their Winnington Park counterparts long before full-time.

It follows a victory for Blacks’ seconds against their neighbours from across the fence the previous weekend.

Luis Lomas evaded two tackles before running in a first try, converted by Harry Naylor.

Dan Young then went over, brushing aside defenders blocking his path, after Ian Haddock and John Sweeney had combined in the build-up.

Two more tries, both of them converted by Naylor, followed ahead of the interval from Tom Merrick and Nathan Johnson.

Lomas added another of his trademark scores early in the second-half, improved by Naylor, before Winnington replied with a converted score of their own.

Taylor touched down, and converted too, before the visitors to Burrows Hill switched off and allowed Park to improve their total with two more converted scores.

“Northwich punished our mistakes in the first-half,” said Winnington skipper Dan Millington afterwards.

“We regrouped after that, and enjoyed a good grassroots derby game that was played in the right spirit.”

Northwich seconds lost 31-24 at Crewe and Nantwich seconds where a rally by the visitors went without a reward.

They reached the interval on terms after tries from Richard Hart and Dan Collins before their hosts ran in two more scores after the interval.

An injury to Daniel Gregory led to uncontested scrums before Chris Bradshaw crashed over following a well-worked lineout.

Crewe kept their guests at arm’s length when they scored again before Northwich, who finished a man down after Jay Miranda went off hurt, claimed a bonus-point thanks to Shaun Burmah’s try.
