BY describing Kazim Waite-Jackson as a ‘handful’ and praising his contribution on Monday, Wayne Goodison has answered those supporters asking if 1874 Northwich will sign a replacement for Jake Parker.

The 20-year-old made his first start of the season in a draw at Whitchurch, where he provided an assist for Matthew Beadle to score an equaliser deep into added time.

And he will be given an opportunity to impress further.

The former Congleton midfielder was unlucky not to score himself, seeing one attempt hit the crossbar and another diverted to safety by goalkeeper David Parton.

“I know Kaz and what he can do,” said Goodison, 1874’s co-manager.

“He makes things happen, and gets into areas where he can be a danger to the opposition by a making a pass or shooting at goal.

“His performance was good, and we’ll challenge him now to deliver again.”

Waite-Jackson made 40 appearances last season, almost half of those as a substitute, and contributed seven goals.

Most of those were spectacular in their execution, and from attempts sent from outside of the penalty area.

However Parker’s departure, announced by the club earlier this week, creates a vacancy for a player with a similar skill-set.

Waite-Jackson’s willingness to take risks, even if that sometimes leads to him losing possession, does set him apart from the other midfielders available to 1874.

Goodison said: “In the past Kaz knew that if even he played well then Jake would probably come back into the side.

“He understood why because Jake was one of our better performers.

“But with him gone there is a chance now and we’re not looking to bring somebody in to play in that position.”

Parker made a decision to leave after increased commitments at work mean he hasn’t been able to attend training, or play in midweek, as often as he would like.

He has been restricted to three substitute appearances this term, the final one against Abbey Hey last weekend.

A return to 1874 isn’t out of the question if his circumstances change, but he has transferred to Wythenshawe Town in the meantime.

“We tried to work something out but it’s not been possible,” said Goodison.

“He’s a player that you want around if he’s fully fit and available, and hopefully he’ll reach that position again in the future.

“For now, this is the best solution for both Jake and us.

“There are no hard feelings, and we’ve certainly not got rid of him, but we have to be fair to everybody else in the squad as well.”
