ADAM Garrod took a wicket that secured precious points for Davenham, battling for survival in the county league’s second division, when they tied with Macclesfield.

He trapped Otis Palmes LBW with the visitors on 142-9 at Butcher’s Stile, where the rivals ended on the same score.

A brilliant effort from captain Danny Hancock, who returned season-best figures of 7-36, had put the visitors on the defensive after Ben Gough (2-59) removed Khalid Sawas (49).

Davenham had been bowled out for 142 earlier in the day, when Garrod (42no) and Mark Greaves (40) were the pick of their batsmen.

They inched further from the Division One relegation zone as a result.

Weaverham’s hopes of beating the drop took a hit when they lost by seven wickets at home to Alvanley, and the Russets now must beat back-markers Runcorn next weekend.

They put 164 on the board at Wallerscote Road, where teenager Jonny Litler (23) and Zulqarnain Aslam (31) added 45 runs for the eighth wicket after Salman Hanif (47) had contributed further up the order.

Skipper Michael Rowlands took 5-59.

Alvanley’s successful chase was built on a partnership worth 131 between Rowlands (65no) and Simon Gee (74) for the third wicket.

Northwich had a chance to do their neighbours a favour by beating Tattenhall in another Division Two fixture.

They posted 159-7 after being put in, although none of Tharusha Fernando (28), captain James Plant (23), Lee Evans (21no) or James Gittings (20) were able to build on a promising start.

The home team recovered from 88-6 thanks to Ryan Spann (37no) and Josh Spraggs (30) adding 63 runs together for the seventh wicket to take the game away from their opponents.

Spin duo Andrew Dufty (3-43) and Tharusha (3-44) were again the most incisive of the Moss Farm outfit’s bowlers.

Oulton Park fell to a one-wicket defeat in a Premier Division encounter with lowly Didsbury, who knocked them over for 119.

In-form Tom Hyslop (38) contributed the biggest individual total for the Little Budworth side.

However they almost recovered to celebrate an unlikely victory thanks to a career-best performance from experienced seamer Matt Parkinson (8-51).

However Matthew Gregson (27no) helped his side to a victory that boosts their survival chances.
