MARK Wakefield is determined to turn his potential into points his home circuit on Saturday when Oulton Park hosts the Volkswagen Racing Cup’s next round.
The Weaverham driver has endured a testing debut campaign in the series following a switch to Team HARD-prepared VW Golf, failing to finish half of the races he has started.
An improved showing at Brands Hatch last month, when he recorded a season-best finish of sixth position to rank as the highest-placed rookie for the second time, provided some cheer.
“It’s a track that I know well and have enjoyed success at on previous visits,” said the 20-year-old ahead of a return to Little Budworth.
“I’ve felt frustrated that I’ve not been able to really show what I’m capable of, and I see this weekend as an opportunity to put that right.”
Two races, both lasting 20 minutes, are scheduled for Saturday afternoon following a qualifying session in the morning.

Wakefield makes the short trip with confidence boosted by a pair of race-winning cameos in the Britcar Endurance Championship.
Along with Richard Woods, who owns an ex-British Touring Car Championship Ford Focus, he has celebrated class success in sprint races at both Oulton Park and Donington Park in recent weeks.
It leaves the HSG Sport combination third in the standings before the series resumes at Snetterton in September.
Wakefield added: “It’s been great to prove that I can deliver results.”
