WEAVERHAM’S hopes of avoiding relegation received a boost following a six-wicket success against Mobberley – a direct rival to beat the drop.

The Russets avenged a hammering in the return game between the teams after Salman Hanif (51no) built on a foundation laid by openers Kevin Douglas (36) and Rob Harrison (27) to steer them to their target at Wallerscote Road.

They had earlier bowled their guest out for 161 after winning the toss, with Zulqarnain Aslam (6-33) timing perfectly his first five-fer of the campaign.

Douglas, with 3-39, had broken through and trapped leading-scorer Muhammed Ali (43) LBW.

Aslam took over to claim the last four wickets, propelling his side out of the bottom two.

Northwich completed a Division Two double over Runcorn when they celebrated a narrow one-wicket win.

Tharusha Fernando (106no) scored a maiden century to help secure it, although what appeared a smooth road to victory quickly became a bumpy one.

Chasing 174, they reached 160-5 before losing four wickets for two runs.

Thankfully their overseas signing from Sri Lanka edged them to their target with Jordan McDonough.

Andrew Dufty (4-30) and Matthew Holland (3-22) had been the pick of the visitors’ attack when Runcorn were dismissed for 173.

Fernando, with 2-52, contributed with the ball too.

Davenham could not slow down Hyde’s charge to the Division One title, instead suffering a seven-wicket reverse at Butcher’s Stile.

They were knocked over for 122 after losing their final six wickets for a combined total of just 23 runs.

Sam Hunt (51) and Adam Garrod (24) had steadied the ship, putting on 58 runs together for the fourth wicket, before they became victims of an on-song Daniel Cranmer (5-40).

Ben Gough (2-47) accounted for the visitors’ openers before skipper Danny Berry (33no) and Elliot Young (30no) shared in an unbroken partnership worth 64 to take Hyde to 123-3.
