PAUL Williams has become the latest member of a promotion-winning side at Witton Albion to leave Wincham Park this summer.

The experienced midfielder follows former first-team captain Anthony Brown to Trafford, who play next season in the Northern Premier League’s newly-formed West Division.

Neither were regulars in the second-half of last term when Brown joined City of Liverpool on loan and Williams started a majority of matches as a substitute.

However both had been influential figures – on and off the field – during the previous campaign when Carl Macauley’s side secured promotion to the Premier Division after prevailing in the Division One South play-offs final against Spalding United.

"Willo is built of the same stuff as Anthony Brown," said Tom Baker, Trafford's manager.

"He's another born-leader, a winner and someone who has a desire to be successful."

Williams, 31, made 88 appearances during two years at Witton and scored 10 goals.

His departure follows that of Steve Tames, Witton’s leading goal-scorer last season, who accepted an offer last month from Welsh Premier League side Bala.

Meanwhile Witton have confirmed that Nick Ryan, Will Jones and Rob Hopley have agreed terms on new one-year deals.
