BARNTON salvaged a draw from their top-flight meeting with visitors Cheadle Hulme after their bowling attack recovered from a pummelling.

Three batsmen contributed a half-century as the away side racked up 269-6 before declaring, with spinner Pat Flanagan (3-82) earning most reward for his endeavour.

Neil Langham also took 2-38.

Simon Hancock’s men ran up 180-7 to pocket 15 points, with in-form Sam Connop (57) and James Hodgkinson (19) putting on 62 runs for the third wicket before Flanagan (54) became the fifth batsman of the day to pass 50.

Kingsley suffered the embarrassment of being skittled for 40 by their hosts Port Sunlight – their lowest collective total in a Cheshire League fixture since 2011.

Surprisingly, only two batsmen were dismissed for a duck.

Their opponents needed only 13 overs to record a seven-wicket win, while Hayden Lanza took 2-23.

Oakmere recorded a sixth successive victory in Division Two after beating Ashley by six wickets.

They were pushed though, and their hosts may have put more than 171 on the board had newcomer Joe Roddis (4-40) not dismantled their lower-order.

It was a good day too for Nick Guest (3-41).

The visitors’ reply wasn’t a smooth one, reaching 62-4 before a match-winning stand worth 104 runs between James Norton (35no) and teenager Ciaran McDonnell (57no) turned the contest their way.

Middlewich could not extend a run of victories to three matches, but instead claimed a solid points-haul from a draw at promoted Maritime, who posted 209-8.

Sam Brothers (3-38) was the pick of the bowlers in which Stephen Parry (2-73) and Matt Ryan (2-50) were active too as the home team posted 209-8.

The men from Haddon Field replied with 185-6, with Richard Clorley (48) and Ryan (44no) making the largest individual contributions.

Winnington Park’s bowlers deserve credit for their side’s five-wicket win at Irby in the same section.

Jonny Wales (5-22) was the architect of the hosts’ downfall for 106, three of those wicket stumpings by captain Alec Butcher.

Tyron Young (34) and Martin Evans (44) then shared in a partnership worth 70 runs to steer the visitors clear of danger after they had slipped initially to 32-3.
