OULTON Park progressed to the Cheshire Cup’s quarter-finals following a six-wicket win at Macclesfield on Sunday.

They did so with plenty to spare, successfully chasing 221 to eliminate lower-ranked hosts.

Martyn East (64) and Danny Leech (32) put on 65 for the first wicket before the former added a further 61 for the second with Muhammad Shahbaz (25).

Matthew Jamieson (63no off 65 balls) then steered the men from Little Budworth to victory – their sixth in succession in all competitions – in tandem with captain Patrick Roberts.

Macc had posted 220-7 after winning the toss with Peter Barron (97no) a stand-out performer.

Craig Douglas (3-29) was most successful of the visiting bowlers, while Leech (2-42), Richard Smith (1-63) and Muhammad Kashif (1-40) also claimed a wicket.

Oulton Park’s reward is a date with Cheshire County League Division One leaders Upton when the competition resumes in July.
