STEVE Tames, Witton Albion’s leading goal-scorer last season, has left to sign for Bala Town.

The Welsh Premier League club, who will enter the UEFA Europa League at the preliminary round stage after finishing fourth, announced his arrival on Thursday.

The 26-year-old was on target 32 times in all competitions for Carl Macauley’s side, improving on his tally during the previous campaign when he joined the Northwich outfit following a successful loan spell from Stalybridge.

He was on the field during a promotion play-offs final victory over Spalding United that secured a return to the Premier Division three years after Albion were relegated.

Tames’ departure is a blow to the manager, who is hopeful of improving on a seventh-place finish next term.

Witton already have agreements in place with Anthony Gardner, Will Jones and captain Rob Hopley as well as Nick Ryan.

However the latter is currently recovering from a triple fracture of his right leg suffered during a league game at Marine in April.
