DAVE Thompson’s smart finish earned for Winnington Park a deserved share of the spoils from a visit to Wigan.

The away team had taken the lead when Harry Garner pushed in a rebound after Mike Sambell’s initial shot from the top of the D had been parried by the goalkeeper.

Following a barrage of short-corners, Wigan equalised with the final touch before the interval.

They netted a second time following a counter-attack, only for Park to restore parity again straight from the restart through Thompson.

Their rearranged encounter at Keswick, scheduled for Sunday, was again postponed.

Winnington’s seconds played out a 1-1 draw with Sale at Sir John Deane’s College, where Mark Lee drilled in from a short-corner to give the home team the lead.

Goalkeeper Andy Palin kept out the visitors until they grabbed a leveller midway through the second-half.

Park’s fourths put behind them the disappointment of a heavy defeat seven days earlier when they scored eight goals without reply against Chester’s sixths.

Liam McKee claimed a first-half hat-trick for the Northwich side, who led 4-0 at the break after Alex Goldie found the net.

McKee added another treble in the second-half, making it six for the afternoon, while Stuart Entwistle completed the scoring after James Egerton’s drive into space had created the opportunity.
