WITTON Albion continued their resurgence by recording a second successive win when Coalville Town visited Wincham Park on Saturday.
Front man Rob Hopley scored twice in a 5-2 win that sends Carl Macauley’s men up to sixth spot in the Northern Premier League’s top-flight.
There was mixed fortune for mid-Cheshire sides in the North West Counties League’s Premier Division.
1874 Northwich led 2-0 at Widnes, only for substitute Billy Webb’s goal with three minutes left to earn a draw for the home team.
In a curious treble, they had also scored in the last minute to deny both Northwich Victoria and Barnton a win in their previous two games.
Northwich Victoria ended an eight-match run without collecting maximum points when they beat Irlam.
It also marks a first success for Steve Wilkes since he replaced Paul Moore as manager last month.
Full-back Daniel Johnson scored on his debut before midfielder Sam Fitton doubled the visitors’ lead after the interval.
So pleased for my @NorthwichVicsFC players today, they've worked so hard since I arrived, and deserved their rewards today #smallsteps 💚

Winsford United took the lead against West Didsbury & Chorlton through Dave Short, only to succumb 3-1 against in-form guests.
Credit to @WD_CFC they deserved their win! One of the worst WUFC performances since I've been manager. No complaints.

Barnton’s woes continued after they again contrived to lose from a winning position.
Steve Lloyd’s men overturned an interval deficit when captain Chris Smith and Ryan Malone scored early in the second half, but the Villagers still went down 3-2.
Elsewhere Middlewich progressed to the Cheshire FA Amateur Cup last 16 following a 2-0 win against Poulton Royal.
Chris Lunn put the Witches in front before Michael Evans converted a penalty with seven minutes left.
James Dean continued an impressive campaign in front of goal for Lostock Gralam when he contributed a hat-trick to their 4-2 victory against Deva Athletic in Cheshire League One.
Charlie Hatton netted their other goal.
Meanwhile Andy Whitney’s double was a highlight of Winsford Saxons’ narrow 3-2 win at Winnington 1994 in the Crewe and District League’s AJ Cooke Trophy.
