STEVE Lloyd hopes a confidence-boost from a midweek derby draw can inspire his Barnton players to record a first win of the season on Saturday.

The Villagers took the lead inside 60 seconds at 1874 Northwich on Tuesday before coming from behind twice later in the game to earn a deserved share of the spoils from a 3-3 draw.

They travel to promotion-hopefuls Bootle tomorrow.

“We’re lifted, for sure, but there’s no trophy on offer for a draw,” said Lloyd.

“We didn’t win, and it’s three points we’re after now.

“The most important thing to come out of the game is we proved to ourselves we can reach a high level, and we’ll have to do the same at Bootle or we’ll risk coming unstuck.”

Bootle won last season’s corresponding fixture 4-2.

They have started the current campaign slowly though, following an FA Cup exit at Hallam by scraping a win at Ashton Athletic thanks to Tony Rendell’s late goal.

Like Barnton, they were involved in a six-goal thriller in midweek when they drew 3-3 with West Didsbury & Chorlton.

The Villagers will be forced to make at least two changes to the side that started at St Luke’s Barton Stadium, with goalkeeper Chris Davies at work.

Chris Kiernan stands in.

George Webster is unavailable too, so Tom Hassall is called up to a 16-man squad.

Meanwhile Jack McKay continues to be ruled out by an ankle injury sustained in an FA Cup defeat at Parkgate a fortnight ago.
