OAKMERE’S seconds dropped into the Division A danger zone on the back of defeat at Haslington.

Skipper Peter Hutchinson (47) led by example in assisting to assemble 153-9.

Partnerships with Alex Wood (27) and A Hodges (26) constituted a promising start at 93-2 but only James Hodkinson (15) and Guy Groves (19) entered double figures in support and the last four wickets were taken by the Davies boys, Gary and Peter, while only one run was added.

Haslington achieved runs at a much faster rate and at 92-4 there was still some hope for the bowlers, but skipper Stephen Davies (17no) and wicket keeper Ben Twemlow (37no) steered home the hosts without further loss.

Hodkinson (2-33) was the most penetrative Oakmere bowler.

Barnton's seconds climbed to third in Division B West thanks to victory over Appleton.

Dave Sujith (7-29 off 14 overs) made it tough going for the Barnton batsmen but Lee Cobley (47) and 28no from number 10 Derek Bowyer provided the hosts a defendable total of 157-9 after 45 overs.

Matty Appleton (3-17) ripped into Appleton from the start of their innings, taking two wickets and a run out before 10 runs were on the board.

The visitors failed to recover and were bowled out for 93, with Derek Bowyer (2-30) and Matthew Morley (2-7) also among the wickets.

Callum Simpson was undefeated on 119 as Winsford's seconds bagged 25 points against Mossley with the help of the stand-in skipper’s maiden century.

And with Mark Skellon contributing 44no the declaration after 39 overs at 202-2 looked a good call.

It proved to be so, with Devon Hughes (6-37) ensuring the platform was not wasted as Mossley were wiped out for 124 in the 46th over.

The visitors batted stubbornly but were further undone by Kevin Fitzpatrick (2-17) and one apiece for Phil Hall and Mark Sargeant.

Winnington Park's seconds were unable to shake off the final Haslington wicket in a draw that earned them 17 points in Division C South and Central.

Openers Hassan Irfan (96) and skipper Simon Barnes (49) narrowly fell short of personal milestones but established control of the game from the start for Park, who ended on 204-5.

Although Dean Mitford went cheaply in the reply, fellow opener William White (50) and Richard Pickford (31) dug in to give the visitors hope.

Only three more Haslington batsmen achieved double figures but the last pair managed to survive as the innings ended on 159-9.

Daniel Barnes (2-32) and Alex Unwin (2-25) had some success with the ball.
