OULTON Park’s hopes of making progress in the Joseph Holt Brewery T20 were hit when they lost by 53 runs at Nantwich, runners-up last season.
The Dabbers racked up 158-5 after winning the toss at Whitehouse Lane, where Ben Johnston (55no off 42 balls) was the pick of their batsmen.
Rob Cook-Sievewright (33) and wicket-keeper Raymond Doyle (27) made individual contributions too.
Matt Parkinson (2-10) was easily the pick of the visitors’ bowlers, supported by Damian Barton (2-50).
Martyn East (35 off 31 balls) struck six boundaries in a quick-scoring innings, but only Mark Latham (12) and Muhammad Kashif (19 off 17 balls) followed him into double-digits as the visitors were dismissed for 105 in the final over.
Oliver Griffiths (3-22), Jimmy Warrington (2-15) and Shaneil Patel (2-19) all played a part.
The men from Little Budworth host Tattenhall, who play a level lower in Division Two of the Cheshire County League, in a fortnight.
