RUDHEATH need to repeat their performance in midweek if they are to lift the Mid-Cheshire District FA Challenge Cup tomorrow, according to co-manager Ben Smith.

They take on Middlewich Town buoyed by beating Wythenshawe Town in a league fixture, a victory that significantly improves their chances of avoiding relegation from the Cheshire League’s top-flight.

It also ended a sequence of eight games without a win.

With three matches of the season left, all of them at home, they are five points clear of the drop zone.

“If we’d played like that previously, then we may not be in the situation we find ourselves,” said Smith.

“Hopefully we’ll produce another display like that so our season ends positively.

“Our midfielders worked hard, and our defenders were organised – we deserved to win and the points are much-needed.”

Social scraped past Barnton Wanderers after extra time in the last four, setting up a date with the Witches.

They will have home advantage too after organisers selected Lostock Gralam’s Park Stadium – where Rudheath have been tenants this term – to host the game.

Smith said: “Results have been poor, and we haven’t played well, in the past few weeks so it was great to see us stay strong against a side like Wythenshawe.

“We’ve still got work to do if we want to survive, but at least the boys can look forward to a final this weekend after playing well – and winning – on Tuesday night.”

Kick off is at 3pm.
