PAUL Bowyer has said beating Northwich Victoria in the Mid-Cheshire District FA Senior Cup final has been a priority for his side since he took charge.

The teams meet at St Luke’s Barton Stadium in Winsford on Tuesday, kick off 7.45pm.

“That’s the one we want to win,” said the 1874 Northwich co-manager, appointed along with Wayne Goodison last week.

“Of the games we’ve had, it’s been top of the list and one we’ve planned to peak for.

“Any club will tell you that winning a trophy is important, and we’re desperate to keep hold of a piece of silverware we won for the first time last season.

“It’s important to us for a number of reasons, not least to give everybody a boost going into the summer.”

1874 progressed to the final following a comfortable 4-1 win against a much-changed Witton Albion.

Coincidentally it was the first game Bowyer had picked the team, together with Goodison, following Ian Street’s surprise resignation last month.

Despite being lower-ranked, they will arguably start as favourites.

They were comfortable 2-0 victors when the sides clashed in a Cheshire FA Senior Cup tie back in January – a first fixture between them since 1874 were formed in 2012.

Vics’ relegation from the Northern Premier League, confirmed following a 5-0 defeat against Witton on Easter Monday, was another blow to their confidence.

Bowyer said: “I don’t think we can take much from the first meeting.

“I’ve been to watch them since, when they played Loughborough last week, and the side has changed quite a bit since.”

“But we’re still confident we have enough quality to win the game.”

Officials have confirmed adults will pay £6 to watch, while concessions enter for £4.

Admission is free for under 16s.
