1874 Northwich and Winsford United may appear to have nothing to play for ahead of their meeting on Easter Monday.

That may be true in terms of table position although Blues, currently 13th, are targeting a place in the top 10 before the end of the campaign.

That said, their derby duels are rarely dull.

They’re often even as well, with both sides able to boast of two wins each from five previous league meetings.

1874 0-4 Winsford: December 26, 2016

Winsford ended 1874’s four-match winning run in emphatic fashion, and dominated proceedings from the moment Nathan Cotterell prompted goalkeeper Greg Hall to make a save inside the first five minutes.

Kyle Riley put Blues in front, then Cotterell doubled their lead after half an hour.

Jordan Johnson lobbed a third goal midway through the second period before Dale Jennings completed a remarkable victory when smuggled a loose ball over the line after his initial attempt had been blocked by Hall.

1874 2-2 Winsford: April 20, 2016

1874 had won the Mid-Cheshire District FA Senior Cup for the first time 48 hours earlier, although manager Ian Street insisted his players would not be tired for this game.

Matthew Beadle’s early penalty put them in front, only for the game to turn following Paul Connor’s dismissal shortly afterwards.

Referee Martyn Rawcliffe then awarded a spot kick to Winsford after Scott Taylor’s resulting spot kick struck Craig Farnworth’s arm, only for Greg Hall to save the wide man’s attempt.

Kyle Riley’s deflected lob made it 1-1 after the interval before Lee Duckworth’s side edged in front when Aaron Stott’s drive squirmed out of Hall’s grasp and into the net through his legs.

There was still time for Beadle to bury a second penalty, levelling for 1874 after Stott handled.

Winsford 0-3 1874: February 29, 2016

The final score suggests an emphatic Northwich victory, but it was anything but.

There was deadlock until Mike Brandon, after Ryan Jackson caught Danny Hudson dithering inside Winsford’s penalty area, swept in an opening goal on the stroke of half-time.

Jackson did not double his side’s lead until the first minute after 90 had been played, converting after Matthew Woolley had wriggled into space.

Substitute Stuart Wellstead’s goal added gloss.

Winsford 1-3 1874: April 6, 2015

Kyle Riley’s header from Alex Byrne’s free kick put Winsford ahead, only for 1874 to score three times in a 15-minute spell either side of the interval to settle the outcome.

Matthew Ward drilled through a crowd of players to level, then Mike Brandon’s shot looped over goalkeeper Conor O’Keefe to make it 2-1 before the break.

When a third goal arrived, it left Winsford with too much to do.

Dilan Lomas’ touch was decisive, smartly steering in Ward’s assist.

1874 0-1 Winsford: December 26, 2014

Goalkeeper Dean Williams was Winsford’s hero, saving two penalties as Blues ended their tenants’ 16-match unbeaten run in league matches.

Winger Dale Jennings grabbed the game’s only goal at the other end, slotting past goalkeeper Matthew Conkie from the edge of the penalty area after Will Wareing slipped the ball into his path.

And 1874, who played the final half an hour with 10 men following Matthew Woolley’s second-half dismissal, could not conjure an equaliser.
