CASTLE D ended a remarkable fortnight by completing a Northwich and District League double on Wednesday.

They added the Team Knockout crown to the top-flight title already secured.

Castle D ran out 4-1 victors in a high-quality encounter with third-tier champions Barn Owl A, who had beaten three higher-ranked opponents – including two from the Division One – to reach the final at Gladstone Club.

Anthony Hallwood won the opening frame for the underdogs, only for Martin Whitehead, Leigh Cobley and Tony Little to take the next three.

And, as he had done in their previous two matches – forcing a winner-takes-all contest for top spot in Division One and then repeating the trick in the play-off – Jason Chester again won a decisive frame for his side.

On Saturday, Gladstone A’s Ben Johnson emerged from a 38-strong field to claim the annual Pauline Peach Memorial Captain’s Cup at his home club.

The Cheshire player won five matches just to reach the final, where he saw off Barn Owl A’s Alan Brace (3-1).
