PAUL Moore has praised goalkeeper Ryan Crump after he adapted quickly to new surroundings during Witton’s win against Belper on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old became the third different custodian to stand between the posts for Albion in as many matches since first-choice number one Danny Roberts sustained an injury last month.

However the former Southport man made a significant contribution, making a smart save in each half to stop Nailers’ forwards Evan Garnett and Ruben Wiggins-Thomas from putting their side ahead.

“We asked Ryan to do a difficult job,” admitted Witton’s goalkeeper coach after a 2-1 victory.

“He came into a team he doesn’t know and, despite not playing a lot of football recently, he did well.

“I think he was commanding, made saves when we needed him too and dealt with crosses without any fuss.”

Witton remain unbeaten in front of their own supporters this season, a sequence they have now extended to 18 matches in all competitions.

That equals a club record set at the start of the 1989-90 campaign when they finished third in the Northern Premier League.

Moore said: “We set out to make this place a fortress, and it’s ‘so far, so good’ in that respect.

“As a management team, we’re more than happy to have picked up six points from the past two games.

“And, like we did on Saturday [against Belper], we had to grind out a result.

“To be fair to Belper, they’re one of the best teams that have visited us this season, so we’ll take winning without playing pretty football all day long.

“We’re winning, and we have momentum. I don’t care what other teams are doing, if I’m honest.

“If you’d offered us this position at the start of the year, then of course we’d have taken it. No question.”
