STEVE Lloyd has said his Barnton side, targeting a fourth win in a row this weekend, will not get carried away by their improved form.

The Villagers can complete a first double in the North West Counties League’s top flight if they can beat Congleton, opponents they defeated a fortnight ago, at Townfield on Saturday.

“We won’t get ahead of ourselves,” said the manager.

“The lads have done superbly to put points on the board over the past couple of weeks, and their morale is understandably high.

“But we’re not naïve enough to forget the lessons we had to learn at the start of the season.”

After winning two of their first three matches following promotion to the Premier Division at the end of last term, they promptly lost 11 of the next 12 matches.

It left them in the relegation zone, only for victories against Congleton, AFC Liverpool and neighbours Winsford United, who they saw off 3-2 on Monday, have propelled them clear again.

Striker Chris Smith has scored doubles in each of the past two games, increasing his goal tally for the season to 16 in all competitions.

Lloyd added: “The spirit is excellent, and hopefully we can keep the momentum going that we have at the moment.”

Defender Danny Meadowcroft returns this weekend after missing the derby duel with Blues, while Dominic Bazley is promoted from the reserves to stand in for injured Pete Aidley.

Central defender Ryan Broadhead (foot) is not yet ready to return though.
