VICS boss Adam Lakeland dedicated Saturday’s victory at Lincoln to the memory of chairman Derek Nuttall.

After falling behind midway through the first half, a double from Matty Clarke and one from Jamie Hinchliffe secured precious points.

Lakeland told the Guardian his players were keen to get a positive result to complete a sobering week.

“It’s been a difficult and emotional few days for everybody connected to the club,” he said.

“We’ve been extremely saddened by Derek’s passing; he was a dedicated, loyal, passionate and funny man.

“Credit to the lads, who worked and battled from start to finish to get a win for Derek and his family.”

After Vics failed to clear a free-kick, Jordan Hempenstall drove home to give the hosts the lead.

However Clarke struck a superb leveller from 25 yards just three minutes later.

The midfielder doubled his tally before half-time when his shot deflected over Lincoln’s goalkeeper to establish for Vics a 2-1 advantage.

After holding the hosts at bay for most of the second half, Hinchliffe finished off a fine team move by converting full-back Kieran Nolan’s cross.

Hempenstall powered home from a corner, but the visitors protected their lead.
