Why should I watch..?

Two of the North West Counties League’s best teams during August meet at Barton Stadium.

Level on points at the Premier Division summit – trailing Atherton Collieries only on goal difference – they can both be considered contenders for promotion this term.

Numbers game

1874 have won five successive matches against West in league and cup since they were promoted to the top flight.

Ian Street’s side have also collected maximum points from four of their past five league matches since a 4-1 reverse at Squires Gate in the opening week of the campaign.

West are feeling good too, recording a victory in five of six attempts since sharing the spoils with Runcorn Linnets in their first game.

That run has included 10 goals in the past two fixtures.

Man to keep an eye on

Mark Jones

The midfielder showed his versatility during a commanding performance in the heart of 1874’s defence during a 5-0 win against Cammell Laird in midweek.

With Chris Middleton still working his way back to full fitness following a serious injury, he may fill in there again.

1874 team news

Wide man Ryan Jackson (knee) is a long-term injury absentee, but defender Danny Thomas is available again after returning from a holiday.

Arron Kirk has left this week to sign for Premier Division rivals Barnton.
