EMILY Ford, a former captain of Grange School Rowing Club, has been selected to represent Great Britain later this month.

The 21-year-old will form part of the women’s eight at the World Championships for under 23s in Rotterdam.

She won a bronze medal in the four at last year’s edition.

“This is a key year for our crews in this age category as we look towards the next Olympic cycle,” said Sir David Tanner, performance director for British Rowing.

“They have the chance to impress at these championships and to stake a claim to step on the ladder for the Games in Tokyo in 2020.”

Ford, currently studying at Newcastle University, is joined in the boat by Holly Hill – another member of the four last summer – plus World Junior Championships medallists Charlotte Hodgkins-Byrne and Anna Thornton.

Alice Bowyer, Chloe Brew, Madelaine Badcott and Heidi Long complete a crew coxed by Sasha Adwani.

Lucy Burgess, who competed at two world championships while a member at Northwich Rowing Club, returns to the international stage in the women’s quad.

The 22-year-old was part of a quad that was fifth in Varese two years ago.

Now training at Agecroft in Salford, she is joined in the crew by Georgia Francis, Ruth Siddorn and Kyra Edwards.

This year’s under 23s regatta takes place alongside both the senior and junior editions.

George Lawton, of Northwich Rowing Club, will contest the men’s double in the latter with Rory Harris of Pangbourne College.

They rowed together at the Coupe de la Jeunesse in 2015, winning a silver medal.
