BARNTON suffered only a second league defeat of the campaign after a rain-affected meeting with Romiley at Broomsedge on Saturday.

In a Division One contest reduced to 28 overs, they struggled for momentum against opponents who were well-drilled in the field.

Callum Doyle (25) batted patiently before the hosts’ middle-order collapsed, losing five wickets in as many overs.

Ben Wingfield (21no), supported by Nathan Lang (15) and then Neil Langham, guided his side to 106-7.

The visitors were positive from the outset of their response, securing an eight-wicket win with three overs to spare.

Langham claimed 2-32 from 12 overs.

Winnington Park fall from the Division Two summit following a third successive defeat, this time by one run at Stockport Trinity.

The men from the Rec were favourites to end that sequence after dismissing their hosts for 115, inspired by Phill Amatiello (6-29) increasing his wicket-haul for the season to 28.

John Bradley (2-22) and Rishad Ali (2-33) provided support.

Park then fell agonisingly short after Ali (19) was run out in the final over going for a score-equalling single.

His stand with Amatiello (20) appeared likely to have settled the outcome before Jibran Khan (3-29) claimed the latter’s wicket.

Kingsley cruised to a six-wicket win at home to Chelford, who they dismissed for 66.

Brent Hartley (5-35) added to his haul from a midweek T20 win against Bunbury, while Ben Stoddart (4-29) did the rest after the hosts won the toss at the Croft.

That same duo did not hang around during a successful chase either, contributing 31 and 26 respectively as they sped to 67-4 in 11 overs.

Oakmere endured a disastrous afternoon at promotion-chasing Port Sunlight, where they were skittled for 39 after being asked to bat.

Taylor Cox (6-19) proved to be their nemesis, supported by Jimmy Roberts (3-13), during a short innings that concluded without a single batsman reaching double-figures.

Nick Guest took 2-13 in the hosts’ reply, which closed at 40-3 after 10 overs.
