FOR Warrington, it was a night to forget as quickly as possible.

They lost the match, and a boxful of balls, at Weaverham on Thursday after their bowling attack was dismantled in the most brutal fashion by the Russets’ all-rounder Wilden Cornwall.

The Antiguan hit an unbeaten 155, off 62 balls, that included 11 fours and 14 sixes as his sided racked up 229-1 at Wallerscote Road.

It is the highest team total in the competition’s history.

However Cornwall, the senior partner in a partnership worth 214 runs with Mike Dean (54no off 48 balls) for the second wicket, fell seven short of the biggest solo score struck by Heaton Mersey’s Aaron Ayre three years ago.

Warrington replied with 136-8, Rob McMillan taking 3-12 off four overs and Ryan Simm 2-17.

A bumper crowd at Moss Farm was disappointed to be denied a glimpse of former England international Andrew Flintoff, who did not arrive with visitors Alderley Edge for a Group Four clash.

The visitors ran up 153-7, led by Khalid Sawas (35), although Ashley Sefton (2-24) and Mike Whitehead (2-17) made sure wickets fell regularly.

Northwich were only 19 runs adrift by the close after improving Chandrika Wathukapage (46), Glinoj Cherian (27) and captain Mark Walker (26) all chipped in.

Oulton Park were on the wrong end of a nine-wicket defeat at higher-ranked Nantwich in Group Two.

A stand of 48 runs for the sixth wicket between Ed Roberts (41) and Daniel Leech helped them to 116-9, a target reached by the hosts inside a dozen overs.

Ryan Brown (58no off 33 balls) led the way, leaving the men from Little Budworth all but eliminated.

Davenham must win at Alvanley tomorrow, Thursday, to keep alive their hopes of making the competition’s quarter finals.

However they will also need a hand from neighbours Middlewich, who host table-toppers Toft at Haddon Field.
