VETERAN Eddie Gibson led a bowling attack for Oakmere’s seconds that inspired a six-wicket win at their Hale Barns counterparts in Cheshire League Division A on Saturday.

He took 4-29, claiming the scalp of leading scorer Tom Entwistle (33), as the hosts succumbed for 111.

They had struggled for momentum after Andy and Dave Norton, a father and son tandem, had reduced them to 8-3 early on.

After tea, Ciaran McDonnell (38) and James Williams (37no) shared in a 67-run partnership for the second wicket to take the visitors close to their target.

They lost three batsmen in quick succession while 25 runs short, but Williams and Dave Norton (11no) saw them home with no further loss.

Barnton’s seconds endured an afternoon to forget after they were skittled for 35 at Heaton Mersey, where Gurdit Singh (3-11) and Syed Hassan (3-6) were the pick of the hosts’ bowlers.

The home team had totalled 198-2 after winning the toss, including an unbroken stand worth 118 runs for the third wicket between Ayaz Cheema (77no) and Abbas Shah (60no).

Kingsley’s seconds cruised to a comprehensive 149-run victory in Division B West at Winsford’s expense.

Openers Lee Tasker (54) and Andrew Ainsworth (34) laid a foundation on which captain Julian Holmes (53) built a half-century before a quick-fire unbeaten 34, off 23 balls, from Haris Yassin took them to 214-5.

They knocked over their guests for a paltry 65, Paul Betteridge (4-25) proving effective before Anthony Alderman (3-5) and Joe Kitchen (2-17) finished the job.

Sam Speak (72) scored a half-century to help Winnington Park’s seconds secure a draw at home to Cholmondeley.

Chasing 195 to win, they reached 147-6.

Chum opener Vijey Mohan (111) put them on the back foot earlier in the day, when skipper Stuart Moniz (2-16 off nine overs) was the pick of the visitors’ attack.
