MEMBERS of Owley Wood Club were beaming with pride after receiving an award for their bowling green.

Owley Wood Club won the ‘Little Gem Award’ at the Community Pride competition 2015, which is organised by Cheshire Community Action.

The Little Gem Award covers any area or artefact in the village that shows special care and attention.

Cllr Gillian Edwards, chairman of the Community Pride Committee for Weaverham Parish Council, said “We are delighted that Owley Wood Clubs beautiful bowling green has been acknowledged via the awards, it is such a well utilised and much respected asset to the village.

“Owley Wood Club are very proactive with their community efforts and are currently raising funds for a childrens play area which again will benefit the whole village. “

“The Community Pride awards celebrate both the aesthetics of the village but also the vibrancy and community spirit, which we feel we have in abundance.

“We are extremely grateful to the Weaverham Trust who work in collaboration with Weaverham Parish Council constantly to ensure that the village looks its best for the competition.”

Cllr Edwards said preparations are ‘well underway’ for the Community Pride 2016 competition.

She urged residents to help out by taking extra pride in their village and keeping it ‘clean, tidy and pretty’.
