FORMER England and Lancashire favourite Andrew Flintoff helped to attract a large crowd to Oulton Park when he made his Cheshire Cup debut on Sunday.

He was part of a visiting Alderley Edge side that squeezed past their hosts by three wickets.

Oulton Park totalled 141-9 after being put in, opener Daniel Leech (24) and Tom Hyslop (26) putting on 52 runs for the second wicket before the next seven fell for just 48.

Flintoff returned figures of 0-26 from seven overs, while current Lancashire all-rounder Jordan Clark took 2-16.

Kiwi Sam Blandford, Oulton Park’s overseas signing for 2016, claimed Flintoff’s wicket, caught by Matt Parkinson, during the visitors’ reply.

His display was a highlight for the men from Little Budworth, claiming 5-19.

However the Premier Division outfit reached their target in the 37th over.

Davenham could not prevent Chester Boughton Hall from making a winning start to a bid to win the competition for a fifth successive season.

They posted 104-6 in a contest reduced by rain to 25 overs per side, Ben Gough (29no) and Sam Hunt (20) the leading scorers.

An opening stand worth 94 between Lee Dixon (43) and Ross Dixon (48), both dismissed by Chris Kouris in the same over, set the holders on course to an eight-wicket win.

Weaverham pulled out of their trip to Division One rivals Didsbury.
