JIM Williams, a member at Weaver Valley Cycling Club, ended a quarter-century hiatus since his previous 50-mile time trial on Saturday.

He finished Dukinfield Cycling Club's Open in a creditable 2:09.07, with clubmate Chris Gilbertson close behind in 2:10.09.

Dave Fearon broke the 25mph barrier during a swift 1:58.55, while Weaver Valley's Alistair Stanway showed promising form to finish in 2:03.08.

Charlie Taylor (Team Bottrill), a national champion over 100 miles, stopped the clock on 1:44.51 to take first prize.

Three Weaver Valley riders headed north to take part in the Cleveleys Road Club 10-mile event near Kendal.

Jack Fearon was fastest in 24.23, finishing just outside the top 50 overall, followed by mum Caroline in 26.19.

Alan Shuttleworth timed 26.48.

Derek Parkinson (Springfield Financial) claimed overall honours in 19.48, ducking under the 30mph mark.

Last Tuesday, Jim Duffy manoeuvred himself into a winning break of seven riders during the second round of the Dave Astles Memorial Road Race series.

They rode away from the bunch with 16 miles left, working together to maintain the gap until the finish

The Weaver Valley man finished fifth overall, second in his age category.

Mark Adshead, Iain Young and Julian Perrett crossed the line as part of the bunch in their respective classes.
