JUNIOR crews from Northwich Rowing Club celebrated a pair of wins during Saturday’s Merseyside Regatta.

Charlotte Almond and Rachel Coffey, in an under 15s girls’ double, defeated rivals from Warrington by a length in the final of their boat class.

Meanwhile Anna Carnell, Sophie Garlick, Honor Campbell, Bethan Coffey and cox Ariane Roucoule completed an under 13s girls’ coxed quad that saw off close competition from Trafford in windy conditions at West Float in Wirral.

“There was some really tight racing, and it was great to see our youngest members enjoying success,” said coach Rachel Hooper.

Grange School crews were victors too at the same event, hosted by Liverpool Victoria Rowing Club.

An under 14s boys’ coxed quad of Oliver Goodman, George Oglesby, Brad Strickland-Baker, Harry Barker and cox Morgan Gray were faster than two rival crews from King’s School Chester in a round robin.

A second boat from the Hartford school, this time with Rory Webster, Sam Thorington, Seb Paisley, Jack McGinn and cox Phoebe Smith on board, matched that feat in races over a 500m course – also against King’s School crews.

Abi Higgs, Abbie Jessop, Holly Chambers, Maddie Brougham and cox Naomi Hall were victors on three occasions in their round robin.

They were ran closest by a crew from neighbours Northwich, sneaking victory by a slender two-foot margin.
