NORTHWICH Victoria face two defining games against Glossop North End this week, starting tonight, Wednesday.

The two sides clash at Wincham Park before Vics travel to Derbyshire on Saturday, with the outcome of those games deciding who will finish third.

More importantly, the victors will also have home advantage in a promotion play-offs semi final next week.

Vics are guaranteed to classify inside the top five in the Northern Premier League's First Division North and are finishing the season in fine form – a 3-0 win over Spennymoor at the weekend was their fifth in a row.

Second-half goals from Iain Howard, Josh Amis and Richie Bennett ensured Vics inflicted on the Moors a first league defeat in 2016.

Manager Adam Lakeland was full of praise for his side’s performance.

“It was a fantastic win for us against a very good side and I thought we were the better team from start to finish,” he said.

“We played the game at a good tempo and were in control throughout.

"We used the ball well, and posed a constant threat.”

Vics took the lead just after the interval when Amis’ effort was deflected into the air and Howard leapt highest to nod into the net.

Amis doubled the lead on the hour mark when he headed in Howard’s inch-perfect free-kick.

Bennett grabbed his 27th goal of the season when Brian Summerskill’s cross fell kindly.

The front man's improvised back-heel was saved, but he slammed home the rebound to seal victory.
