Winnington Park 2 Lytham St Anne’s 3
WINNINGTON Park did not get the reward an improved performance deserved on Saturday, succumbing to a late winner by Lytham.
The hosts attacked from the outset at Sir John Deane’s College, establishing a lead in the fifth minute when skipper Pete Evans flicked the ball through the goalkeeper’s legs.
He was denied by the visitors’ custodian shortly afterwards when he shot with power, only to double his side’s advantage at the start of the second period from a penalty-corner.
They spurned chances to make it 3-0, then saw their lead evaporate during a spell when Evans was in the sin bin.
Lytham punished individual mistakes to level before pinching a decisive goal at the end of a counter-attack to send the home team to the bottom of North League Division Two West.
High-flying Urmston visit this Saturday, push back 2pm.
