WITTONERS mobbed Mike Moseley after ending Matlock's promotion push.

Albion's favourite son grabbed the goal that ended the visitors' spirited challenge, so setting up a rematch with AFC Telford United for a place in next season's Conference North.

On Saturday a glut of glaring misses had made him the villain.

And, on a night of red and white redemption, Chris Gahgan repaid his debt to the Wincham Park faithful with a goal of his own seven days after his own personal moment of madness.

Witton's class told in extra time - they scored twice in five minutes to end the contest - but they were outplayed for long periods in normal time.

But few would begrudge them a little luck after Saturday.

This game could have been over after quarter of an hour.

Ian Kearney was given the freedom of Wincham to head home Rob Lloyd's free kick on 10 minutes, rising unchallenged to crunch a header past keeper Andy Richmond.

Ross Clegg marched through five minutes later and planted the ball in the bottom corner, but a bizarre offside call halted his celebration.

From their next attack Matlock levelled the score.

There was a hint of handball by Simon Barraclough as he controlled a bouncing ball on the edge of the box, but he left no doubt about his finish. His rising drive zipped into the top corner as Jon Kennedy provided a token dive.

Gahgan then danced past two tackles before drilling a low shot through Richmond to restore Albion's advantage on the half hour.

Witton finished the half on top, and Alex Brown's wizadry to tee up Liam Brownhill deserved a goal only for Richmond to smother his shot from point blank range.

The visitors dominated the second half.

Barraclough spurned a one-on-one with Kennedy after racing onto a long through ball, before top scorer Ian Holmes fired off target when he burst clear from Paul Riley's through ball.

Gary Williams' men grabbed a deserved equaliser 11 minutes from time.

Sub Tom Cahill had time to swivel and squirm his shot past Kennedy from Steve Warne's set piece to set up a thrilling finish in which both sides wasted golden opportunities.

Adam Warlow spooned over a slapstick finish from Rob Lloyd's assist, while at the other end Kennedy brilliantly palmed away Cahill's goalbound effort after he had spun past Kearney.

Wittoners breathed an even larger sigh of relief in the opening seconds of extra time.

Cahill waltzed past Kearney only to be denied by Kennedy's stunning block. Warne pounced on the rebound to head goalwards but Brownhill smuggled the ball off the goalline.

It was Matlock's last chance.

Moseley skimmed a perfect header past Richmond from Mark Jones' assist to claim the goal of the game, before Warlow finally found his shooting boots to ram home a loose ball at the second attempt after Nick Farquarson had sent him clear.

Witton fans, relentless in their vociferous support throughout, saved their best song until last.

Bring on the Telford' seemed an apt way to finish.
