ALISTAIR Stanway set a personal best on Cheshire’s roads during Congleton Cycling Club’s 50-mile time trial on Saturday, when he completed the course in 1:59.07.

The Weaver Valley Cycling Club member classified inside the top 30 overall as a reward.  

Dave Fearon timed 2:02.11, while veteran Alan Shuttleworth – who usually rides a tricycle – reached the finish in 2:23.51.

Caroline Fearon did so in 2:38.50.

At the front, in-form Charles Taylor (South Pennine RC) recorded a third successive win in 1:43.18.

Lee Suthard took first prize in Weaver Valley’s 25-mile time trial championship, clocking 55.37.

Iain Young, in 59.49, was runner-up with Stanway third in 1:00.17.

In an open 25-mile time trial organised by the club, which attracted more than 60 entries, Darren Maironis (Coveryourcar.co.uk RT) was quickest in 53.41.

Stanway, in 19th position, was first Weaver Valley representative to the finish in 59.00.

Craig Lee, in 1:05.19 and Jim Williams – after timing 1:06.13 – followed him.
