WHARTON Cons could not prevent holders Tixall from progressing to the Brunner Cup final at a sodden Warrington on Saturday.
The Birkenhead outfit, unbeaten in the competition since losing to Castle Private in the last four two years ago, were victors by 49 chalks at Grange Sports and Social Club.
Thomas Vickers, who had claimed the British Senior Merit seven days earlier, Simon Cookson and Joe Illidge were the Winsford club’s only winners during a 234-185 defeat in the rain.
Tixall, who celebrated a maiden success during last season’s edition, will take on Gladstone – conquerors of Frodsham Red Lion – in next month’s final as a reward for seeing off the 2012 winners.
They defeated the same opponents in the showpiece, hosted in Northwich by Rudheath Social Club, a year ago.
