BARNTON’S six-match unbeaten sequence in Division A ended following a defeat at Runcorn on Saturday.

Gary Edwards (34) and 15-year-old Joel Cross (29no) were their leading scorers as they were bowled out for 135, with Carl Hargreaves (5-42) the pick of the hosts’ bowlers.

Derek Bowyer (2-39) was most successful of an attack depleted by call-ups to the first team as Runcorn reached their target for the loss of only four wickets after 27 overs.

Oakmere closed to within a point of the table’s summit in Division B as a reward for beating leaders Haslington by 20 runs.

Captain Peter Jones (57), along with openers Pete Lee (40) and James Norton (44), made the biggest contributions to the Northwich outfit’s 185-5 after they had won the toss.

They dismissed their Crewe-based hosts for 165, with Eddie Gibson’s five-wicket haul a highlight.

Winnington celebrated back-to-back victories for the first time this term following a six-wicket defeat of Malpas.

Tom Speak (3-22), John Bradley (3-11) and James Hanson (2-14) were among the wickets to reduce Park’s opponents to 70-7 before Jack Hinchcliffe (32no) helped increase the total to 124-9.

Winnington made safe the points in the 28th over, led by Kendol Richardson (26) and fellow opener Simon Barnes (24) before Stu Moniz (24no) finished the job later on.

Kingsley’s bowlers had too small a total to defend at lowly Cholmondeley, where their innings closed at 142 all out.

Neil Rowlands (26) provided early impetus before skipper Julian Holmes (42) counter-attacked from 63-5 with support from Dom Carmichael (17) and Joe Kitchen (18).

Luke Bratt conceded six runs from seven overs, but his colleagues struggled until returning Haris Yassin took a wicket with his first delivery.

Lee Tasker added two in the same over, both caught by Holmes, but Cholmondeley secured victory at 143-4.
