AFTER a 13-week wait, Winsford were able to celebrate a maiden victory of the campaign in Division Three on Saturday.

Their six-wicket win at Langley was a collective effort, first by Mark Dean (4-68) and Craig Webb (4-77) who prompted eight wickets to fall for 54 runs in the middle of the home team’s 208-9.

Andy Cooper (33) and Webb put on 65 runs for the second wicket before Ben Crellin (54no) and Craig Edmundson (19) added 55 for the fourth before Barry Crellin (41no) finished the job at 212-4.

Michael Dunning inspired Winnington Park to a six-wicket success at Chelford in Division Two, keeping them in a promotion position.

The hosts were bundled out for 119, the spinner doing most of the damage during a fine spell of 6-25.

Martin Evans (42) followed last weekend’s half-century with another assured innings, leaving captain Alec Butcher (23) and Jonny Wales (25no) to knock off the remaining runs.

“It’s important to maintain daylight to third place,” said Butcher afterwards.

“More professional performances like this one will help us to do exactly that.”

Barnton climbed to third after thrashing Ashley by 123 runs.

Simon Hancock’s men posted 209-8 after being put in, with Paul Coot (88) contributing to partnerships worth 69 with Adam Garrod (17) and then 49 with wicket-keeper Rick Farnworth (35).

Neil Langham’s tremendous opening spell, during which he claimed 6-39, had the hosts’ reply in trouble before Hancock (3-9) reduced them to 86 all out.

Kingsley’s bowlers had too small a total to defend at Woodford, where skipper Toby Mullins (40) top-scored in their 122.

In-form Travis Martin (5-43) made inroads into the hosts’ order, but it was not enough to prevent a five-wicket defeat.

Oakmere beat Stockport Trinity by 96 runs, skittling their opponents for 74 thanks to the efforts of Matt Norton (7-26).

Trinity had been replying to their guests’ 170, to which opener Alex Hodges (56) and Dan Wood (53) contributed half-centuries.
