WEAVERHAM took promotion-chasing Timperley’s scalp on Saturday, a 17-run success putting behind them the disappointment of last week’s derby defeat.

The Russets posted 175 after winning the toss, led by a half-century for James Lewis (73) before Matthew Jamieson (27) chipped in lower down the order.

Chris Page took 6-45 for the visitors.

Their reply was modest though, stalling at 158 with Wilden Cornwall (3-30), Rob MacMillan (3-28), Kevin Douglas (2-29) and Kevin Waterhouse (2-44) among the wickets.

Asif Iqbal, with 40, offered most resistance.

Davenham closed to within eight points of their neighbours after recording a fourth successive win, this time by 30 runs at Cheadle Hulme.

They closed on 196-9 after being put in, a century stand for the seventh wicket between Mike Sambell (83) and James Loveridge (39) rescuing an innings that was in danger of collapse.

Hulme were humbled for 166 after tea, when Robin Taylor (4-66) and Dean Jackson (3-51) led the visitors’ attack.

Mark Greaves’ men have risen to eighth in the table, 37 points clear of the relegation zone.

“It’s been a team effort to turn things around,” he said.

“Everybody in the squad has played their part.”

Oxton outplayed Oulton Park at Little Budworth, where the home team were bowled out for 146 after winning the toss.

However only Pat Roberts (59) and Martyn East (34) showed resolve against the bowling of Gayan Fernando and Mahesh Rajaratne, who took five wickets each.

The visitors reached 147-3 by the 23rd over, with Shaaiq Choudhry (47no) and Rajaratne (46) doing most of the work.

Middlewich were thwarted by the rain at Tattenhall, where they had hoped to make it back-to-back league wins for the first time this season.

They totalled 164 before the weather forced abandonment, with Stuart Price (51no) and Stephen Bliss (28) adding 71 runs for the eighth wicket.

After taking seven points, they remain 41 adrift of safety.

In Division Two, Northwich lost by seven wickets at Widnes.

The Moss Farm men were dismissed for 113, with opener James Gittings (42) and James Plant (31) putting on 59 runs for the fourth wicket.
