MARTIN Goff led by example on Saturday, the Davenham skipper scoring a magnificent unbeaten century in his side’s successful run chase at home to Alvanley.

He was not out on 130 as the Division Two-leaders eased to a six-wicket win.

Earlier, Dave Ashley (3-53) and Ryan Blackie (3-42) bowled hostile spells to have the visitors in trouble at 4-4.

Dave Jones (87), along with tail-ender Nigel Cox (40), helped Alvanley recover to 199 all out.

Weaverham lost by six-wickets after travelling to Widnes, where Rob Harrison (71) hit a half-century in the Russets’ 139 all out.

The hosts were comfortable victors at 140-4, with Mike Byrne (58no) leading their reply.

Northwich won a thriller at Oulton Park, squeezing home by one wicket after being set a victory target of 213.

A third-wicket partnership worth 78 runs, involving Ryan Twigg (45), preceded one for the fifth that added 43 thanks to Simon James (40).

The Moss Farm men closed on 213-9 with more than two overs to spare, Tom Garnett, Mark Latham and Richard Smith each claiming a brace of wickets.

Earlier, Mark Johnson (32) and Latham had put on 51 for the first wicket after Oulton Park had been put in before contributions from Simon Torlop (48), Danny Ainsworth (41) and Garnett (30no) increased their tally.

For Northwich, Mark Phillips took 3-52 while captain Gavin Twigg chipped in with 2-38.

In Division One, Middlewich continue to prop up the table following a four-wicket defeat at Upton.

Captain Alex Gill (46) hit nine boundaries, but he was the only batsman to reach double figures as they visitors were dismissed for 77.

Graeme Keenan took 6-17.

Upton made it to their target inside 19 overs, although Nigel Stubbs (4-27) made sure they lost wickets along the way.
