CREWS from Grange School and Northwich Rowing Clubs have been seeded for this week’s Henley Regatta, which starts on Wednesday.

Matt Roe, Jonny Glover, Scott Ozsanlav-Harris and Matt Strickland-Baker make up the Hartford school’s junior men’s quad, which enters the Fawley Challenge Cup at the last 16 stage on Thursday.

They will race against the victors of a first-round encounter between Tiffin School, from Kingston upon Thames, or a boat from Frankfurter Rowing Club.

Northwich, represented by Harry Blake, George Lawton, Leon Langmead and Sam Harte, have to wait as well to discover their second-round opponents.

They were paired with Leander Club B or Reading in Saturday’s draw.

Both Grange and Northwich boats have been seeded as a reward for their performances at other regattas so far this season.

Langmead was part of a Northwich crew was unexpectedly beaten, if only narrowly, by Windsor Boys’ School – who went on to finish as runners-up to Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School – in their opening race at last year’s edition of the prestigious annual event.

A second Northwich quad missed out on a place in the main draw following a qualifier on Friday.

Matt Roberts, Jack Radford, Josh Almond and Chris Malley completed the 2,000m course in 7:16.1.

Sir Steve Redgrave, in his inaugural year as chairman, will preside over a bumper Henley Royal Regatta with 526 crews from 18 countries – 32 more than last year.

Olympic silver medallist Matthew Langridge, who learned to row at Northwich, has entered the Silver Goblets and Nickalls’ Challenge Cup in a pair with James Foad.

The duo were runners-up for Great Britain at last year’s world championships.

Racing for clubs and schools starts on Wednesday morning.

All racing will be shown live on Henley Regatta’s official YouTube channel, with a daily highlights show available to watch on demand within an hour of the close of each day’s action.

In addition, finals day is to be broadcast live by the BBC via its Red Button service and on the BBC Sport website.
