IAIN Young represented Weaver Valley Cycling Club at the national time trial championships on Saturday.

He produced an excellent ride, averaging 25mph to complete 50 miles in 1:59.52 on a course that included three laps of a circuit from Twemlow Green to Chelford and Cranage.

Defending champion Matthew Bottrill, from Leicester, won for a third successive year after clocking 1:41.42.

On Saturday, Alan Kemp finished fifth overall in Stafford Road Club’s Charlie Betteley Memorial Road Race at Swynnerton, claiming first prize in his age category.

Weaver Valley’s Jim Duffy, among the over 40s, joined a second breakaway group on the last lap to rank 11th overall.

Kevin Underhill raced too.

Meanwhile Kemp had been the best-performing Weaver Valley rider during the second round of the Dave Hinde Race Series at Oulton Park race circuit last Tuesday.

He was fifth among the over 50s, but classified first in his age category.
