VALE Royal Athletics Club runners set personal bests during Saturday’s British Milers’ Club (BMC) Grand Prix at Sportcity in Manchester.

Elliot Bowker climbed to fifth in the UK rankings for under 20s men after clocking 14:33.98 in the 5,000m A race, while Katie Brough placed fourth in the women’s A race over the same distance.

Her time, 15:53.74, propels her into the top 10 nationally.

Jacob Brown lowered his previous best over 800m, finishing second in the men’s E race in 1:52.74.

Josh Betteley, over 1,500m, and Matthew Sheen (5,000m) set new lifetime markers too.

Vale Royal’s Katie Gerrard timed 4:31.46 in the women’s 1,500m B race, another personal best.

Tessa McCormick improved on her performance over 5,000m at the British Universities and Colleges Championship in Bedford four weeks earlier by 10 seconds, clocking 16:45.52.

Andrew Miles, Jodie Spencer and Chris Perry, fourth in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase, raced too.
