ALAN Kemp added another title to his collection on Saturday, this time winning in his age class at British Cycling’s National Masters Road Race Championships.
The Weaver Valley Cycling Club ace only broke away from his closest rivals in the final 200m, holding on up a slope to the finish to claim first place in the men’s over 60s category.
The 54-mile race, around a circuit at Newton Longville in Buckinghamshire, took place in wet, windy conditions.
Several riders dropped out, and any breaks were reined in.
Kemp entered the final kilometre at the head of a depleted bunch, making a decisive move to finish ahead of Alan Forrester (Rhyl) and Bill McMillan (Glasgow United).
In Saturday’s Stretford Wheelers 25, Weaver Valley’s Iain Young timed 58:51 on his debut.
Alastair Stanway rode strongly, clocking 59:05, while veteran rider Alan Shuttleworth completed the course in 1:09.57.
Andy Wilkinson (Port Sunlight Wheelers) took first prize in 51:27.
