HUNDREDS of people from across the country have taken part in a walk through York to raise funds for a charity which helps people with inflammatory bowel disease.

The 10th Crohn’s and Colitis UK Yorkshire Walk set off from the Hospitium in the Museum Gardens on Sunday and went upriver to Clifton Bridge and then downstream to the Millennium Bridge before returning through the city centre to the gardens.

Co-ordinator Cath Mortimer said the 8K walk went really well, with 325 walkers taking part despite the chilly weather, with some wearing fancy dress on a super hero theme.

She said the walkers included four generations of a family who came up from Milton Keynes, the oldest of whom was 95 years old.

She said the walk, one of three held across the country by Crohn’s and Colitis UK, raised at least £12,000 for the charity, which would use the money to help fund a support line, research and campaigning.
