The Conservatives increased their majority on Chiltern District Council at Friday's election count, claiming seats from the Lib Dems, Labour and UKIP.

The number of Tories on the authority went up to 35, as they took victory in all but five of the council wards.

There was one eyebrow-raising result as the Liberal Democrats stole the Amersham Town ward back from Tory control, as Davida Allen reclaimed the seat she lost in 2011 to Tony Williams.

But that was a rare crumb of comfort for those in yellow, as they lost three other seats to the Conservatives.

Amersham Common, Vale and one of the two seats in the Asheridge Vale and Lowndes ward - which were all previously held by the Lib Dems - were all claimed by the Tories.

In the battle of the former Chesham mayors, Labour's Mohammad Bhatti was ousted at the expense of the Conservatives' Mark Shaw, while UKIP's David Meacock was unseated in the Chalfont St Giles ward of Gold Hill, as Christopher Ford was victorious.

The Lib Dems retained the second seat in Asheridge Vale as Alan Bacon held on, while group leader Peter Jones was kept on in Ballinger, South Heath and Chartridge.

Independents Seb Berry and Derek Lacey retained their seats in the Great Missenden and Ridgeway wards to complete the new-look line-up of the council.

With 12 members not seeking re-election, there are 17 new faces on Chiltern District Council.
