HARTFORD Tennis Club’s men have made a flying start to the summer season in the South and Mid Cheshire League.

Five of the Chester Road club’s seven teams won, while the two that were beaten competed against higher-ranked opponents.

One of the best results was in Division One, where the thirds defeated Nantwich A 5-3, giving them two crucial points.

Hartford G secured a 7-1 win over Holmes Chapel C, with youngster Peter Rosa proving a shrewd pick by captain Roger Hemmings.

There was similar success for the ladies’ A team, who defeated neighbours Cuddington A 6-2 after a debut from Kathryn Barnett who partnered Jacqui Wood to win all four sets.

In a Hartford derby, the ladies’ B beat the C 6-2 with teen stars Molly Archer and Lillie Prior more than justifying their selection for the senior teams this season.

There was also an 8-0 win for the ladies’ D over the E.

Winsford’s men made a winning start to their Division Three campaign at Goostrey A, scoring a 5½-2½ success.

Alex Lerczak, Chris Knight, Chris Mayoh and Mark Garratt were on court for the visitors.

In Division Four, Acton Bridge whitewashed Winsford B.

Steve Harris, Martin Stoilov, Eddie Johnson and Steve McCormack represented the Knights Grange outfit.
